In Willowbrooke Post, you inherit your parents’ Post Office in the quaint village of Willowbrooke. The challenge is to take over the running of the establishment whilst re-connecting with the community in which you grew up.
Well, ‘challenge’, in some contexts, might be a bit strong. Sure, there are new skills to learn, lots to remember and a whole host of quirky characters to win over – but it could be worse.
All over the world, there are Post Offices in bizarre locations that provide vital links to remote outposts. Inherit one of these, and forgetting to re-order stamps will soon slide down your list of potential problems!
If you’re curious about the post office in the image above, find out what it is at the bottom of this article!
1. Starting at the bottom (of the world)…
Port Lockroy is the most southerly Post Office on earth – and has become a top tourist destination in Antarctica.
It’s on the island of Goudier, 700 miles south of the Chilean and Argentine coasts and essentially exists so that visitors can post cards or letters to their friends, family (or themselves), proving they were there – even if sometimes they take six weeks to arrive.
2. Meanwhile, at the top…
Dear Mum, Just climbed Everest. Am alive. See you soon.
Quite possibly a very common letter sent from the Post Office at the base camp of the highest mountain in the world.
It’s 17,388 ft above sea level and, due to the deadly weather conditions, is only open from April to August.
3. And below sea level…
Vanuatu is a South Pacific Nation made up of roughly 80 islands, and is home to the only underwater Post Office.
It’s about 10 feet down, allowing divers and snorkelers to send special waterproof postcards.
Why? Why not.
4. Finally, possibly the most important Post Office of all…
Every Post Office plays a part in making sure Santa knows what everyone wants for Christmas, of course, but the one nearest to the man himself is part of The Santa Claus Village, in the Arctic Circle.
It’s staffed by a team of elves, fluent in several languages, and handles over 600,000 letters from children in over 150 countries.
Quiet in the summer.
And for the grand finale – for those who were curious about the first image’s post office! That is none-other than India’s very first floating post office on the beautiful Dal Lake in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir! It includes a philately museum, a shop that sells postage stamps, greeting cards and post cards, stationary, and souvenirs and more!
There are plenty more wild post offices around the world, of course. Each of them help keep people connected, whether they’re from the top of the world, from the edge of Antarctica, whether they require scuba equipment to reach, or even if they’re all the way in sleepy little Willowbrooke.
In our brand new upcoming game Willowbrooke Post, take care of your parents’ post office following their unexpected departure and return to your childhood home in the quaint, countryside village of Willowbrooke. Manage the establishment for a year, while becoming a part of the local community, brimming with colourful and curious characters.
